Thank you for your interest in Diaper Lab, Boston's premiere cloth diaper and diaper service business. Since our founding in 2008, Diaper Lab has built a strong and loyal following of parents and families who have shopped in our former retail location, purchased online, participated in our expert-led workshops, or used our local diaper laundering service. As our family transitions to a new chapter in our personal lives, we are exploring opportunities to allow Diaper Lab to move forward into its own new chapter under the guidance of new ownership.
Diaper Lab is a unique combination of services, and we understand that there may be interest in only certain elements of the business. As a result, we want to highlight the different elements of the business. While our preference would be to sell the full set of operations and assets, we are open to offers encompassing only parts of the business.
Diaper Lab Brand
Diaper Lab is now one of the longest-established consumer-facing brands in the cloth diapering and babywearing industry nationally. When we launched in 2008, we were one of the few online or retail locations in the country which principally sold cloth diapers and related infant products. We are currently one of only three cloth diaper wash and delivery serivces in Massachusetts. We have been a strong presence in the local Boston/Cambridge and adjacent communities in particular, having served over 250 families with our wash and delivery services, thousands of participants in our in-person and online educational offerings, and tens of thousands of visits and purchases.
Online Retail
The Diaper Lab online retail sales (https://diaperlab.com) platform has been in existence since 2008 and is currently operating on the Shopify platform. There are currently over 1000 described products (totalling over 3500 individual SKUs when considering product size and color variants), with the largest collections in infant diapers, diapering accessories, baby carriers, and general infant care. Because Diaper Lab had principally been a brick and mortar retail establishment until 2023 and focused on local delivery service since then, customers were principally acquired via those channels. Considerable opportunities exist for those looking to take an existing brand and online ecommerce presence and focus on additional growth locally and beyond. While inventory levels are currently low (and are currently on sale for liquidation), transfer of remaining inventory with sale is possible.
Diaper Service
Diaper Lab is activley operating a diaper washing and delviery service out of a facility in Medford, MA, adjacent to Ball Square in Somerville. The facility includes two industrial-commercial washing machines, programmable laundry chemical dispensing system, a hospital-grade ozone laundry disinfectant system, and four standard-size dryers. In addition we have extensive operational process investments and technology to enable a twice-weekly service schedule and a variety of premium offerings that extend beyond the typial prefold delivery serives. The serivce has typically supported between 50 and 70 customers on three distinct service rountes (Cambridge/Somerville; Arlington/Belmont/Medford/Malden; Boston/Brookline/Newton/Watertown). Further growth in the market is possible, though would likely require relocation due to physcial constraints of the current facility.
Educational Services
Diaper Lab has been known for in-person and (during and following COVID shutdown) live online classes. The flagshap offering has been the Introduction to Cloth Diapers course, which has been offered hundreds of times to thousands of families. While it is the only class currently offered, prior courses included babywearing, newborn care, and infant CPR. Course content listings, handouts, and other materials are available.
Retail Storefront Fixtures
While the Diaper Lab retail store in Cambridge, MA closed in 2023, we are still in posession of a large collection of retail fixtures and display inventory (slatwall, rounders, shelving, etc.)
